Question how Power Off and ON my Second HDD ?

hi , first i want to buy an external 2TB HDD but then i see i can buy 4TB Internal HDD with the same price !

i want to use this Hard disk for Archive Movies , music and ...

so maybe Some day i use them for 2 hours or not use at all

i know i can disconnect cables from Case but i dont like this way and my case is not open

so i seek for a way to turn off this HDD in default and only activate it when i want

is there any way to do this ? or i must buy external HDD ?!

thanks but i heard these Gadgets isnt stable in power and many HDD had bad sectors after using this or Burn

Well these ones shouldn't have issues due to the additional power input but I have a friend that uses this a lot without issue.

You may need to do a bit of research before buying but the reviews are pretty good.

One last thing to check is there is a option to turn off a HDD after a certain amount of time which may work for your needs.

I use that but the version that has the built in Fan and have had no issues with it. Neither has my cousin who got one for his Xbox after seeing mine.

And be sure to eject the drive thru windows before turning the power off to prevent damaging the drive.

Why do you want to turn it off? They don't use much power. If you want to save a few watts of power, get a WD Green drive, they have special firmware to minimize power use. But either way, no need to worry about actually killing power to the drive.

HD these days don't sip that much power (my 4TB Red 10 watts at idle), and there is an argument whether repeat start-stop does more damage.

U can try Windows' SLEEP function but at least from W7, sleep all HD or none.

Windows sleep doesn't really power down the drive, but stops it from spinning which should take power consumption to a watts or so per drive.
