How reliable are molex to sata power adapters?



I've seen a few youtube videos where they shorted out and destroyed hard drives.



Shot story. We have 27 workstations with SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS

power supplies. We are running 4 mechanical SATA drives plus a SATA drive bay.

We used another brand of SATA power and fried 3 hard drives on two systems.

The cables were not compatible even though they plugged it.

We are going to use MOLEX to STATA adapters or purchase a more SATA power but hey are hard to find.

It's me again.
As I mentioned the above computers are in my LAB. (We are going to purchase the proper sata power adapters that go with the power supply)

My personal computer at home is ASUS ATX DDR3 2133 AMD AM3+ Motherboard M5A97 PLUS.
I added a PCI-E card to add USB3 https://www.amazon.com/Port-PCI-Express-Card-Motherboard-Style/dp/B00UK3X3L0

I can only get to it with a molex to sata adpater.

It's just about cable and wire quantity. Cable adapters are perfectly fine if cables are made with quality wires, pins, and connectors.

You will only short out and destroy HDD when you are buying those cheap low-quality cables made by amateurs using sub-standard materials.

You can also use Molex to Single SATA or Molex to Multiple SATA adapters. There are countless options and choices.

Those power supplies have 8 SATA power connections. Why do you need MOLEX adapters if you have SATA drives? How many drives per system are you trying to power? Can you run on simply larger drives instead of more of them? Or use network storage?
