Dear friends,

I am planning to buy a LED monitor. In my place there are branded LED monitors like samsung, asus, lg etc and unknown-branded monitors like vision, starex etc. The branded monitors have higher price compared to the unknown-branded monitors and both types of monitors carry similar warranty periods. How reliable and durable are such LED monitors from unknown brands? Is it worthy to buy such monitors?

Thanks in advance.

Everyone at one time or another has bought off-brand stuff. But it's one of those things that's impossible to really guess at. There's several brands at are actually off-shoots or rebrands of higher grade companies, or house brands like Insignia is a Best Buy house brand. So you'll find that Vision or Starex could very well be made by Asus or AOC or Samsung, but use a different brand to target a different share of the market, reserving their own brand for higher price markets. Without knowing the parent company of the brand, it's a pot-luck guess as to what's decent and what's not.

Unknown brands can be region and country specific they can be low [censored] quality or actually quite good it's hard to tell unless you have a way to run down the manufacturer or designer. Brands designed for areas where the income is lower.. are going to be lower quality to fit that price segment. Even though they might offer you the same warranty it might be such a hassle to return it or get it repair that it might not be worth it. If you want to save some $$$ on a monitor go Used or Refurb on a name brand, you will get a good price and know its not going to self destruct. You may or may not have a warranty though it all depends on the brand and whom did the refurb.

Personally I would never buy unbranded or obscure brand tech products.

The "big names" cost more for a good & logical reason - - you are not just "paying for the name" as some people insist on propagating. You're paying for superior build-quality and superior manufacturer's support on the web etc.

Now if none of that bothers you and you're only interested in saving money, or your family circumstances dictate that money is tight, those cheaper generic models are often the only option for some. Fair enough, can't criticise that.

But where you can afford the top brands you should buy them instead in my opinion.
