Planning on building a new rig with Galaxy cards in them. Specifically these : http://www.galax.net/US/980hof.html

(full system plan if you're curious: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2388383/opinion-high-end-build.html)

Has anyone used them/Know how they are. I'm going to water cool them so cooling performance wont be an issue. I'm more curious about their quality, service and support. Like I've heard some wonky things about MSI. That's why i'm asking. Also how well do they overclock in comparison to other 980 models. I've heard some do better than others. True or False?

Thanx for any help in advance

Solution

worst case cenario is shitty costumer service and bad RMA service

personaly think there wont be a worst case cenario since they are a very experienced company
it is galax not galaxy..its a sister company of galaxy

galax is a new gpu maker... they have been manufacturing gpu cards under the name of galaxy or KFA2 for other big companies like asus, msi etc since a long time.. now they have decided to make their own separate company

they deliver good cool cards.. but since the company has just started , their afterservice is not known yet

Hhhhhhmmmmm. If that's the worst that'll happen then i think i might go for it. I mean 1-2 fps less wont kill me and since they are a experienced company, i hope i wont have to RMA it. Besides.Besides. Im pretty careful with my hardware. By what you guys have told me, It sounds like its worth a shot with caution. Im not buying right now anyway though so maybe by the time i am, things will have changed. Thanx for the help guys

Don't worry man, GALAX is a trustable company.
I have two 980 SOC's in SLI and my friend just bought his cards as well.

They've both performed like a charm, and they overclock like a beast as well.
Good luck! 😀

Sweet. Thanx 😀 Good to hear something good from an ower 😀

No problem, glad to help 😀
Also, did I mention I was able to get to 1500MHz easily on the first card?
At around 78 degrees celsius, and a 12mV overvolt (and only 70% fan speed)
Now that I have two cards, temps have changed and the first card hits much higher temps as it has restricted airflow.

But, that's with any card so I do hope you are happy with your decision.
Please do tell us which card you buy! 😀

ad a deepcool xfan 5 behind the 1st card to lower its temps.......

I will probably get the white HOF 980. So Saxay 😀. Does anyone here know whether a water cooling block will be available for it?

Only buy that card if you have the money.
Performance is about 2fps more on the HOF compared to the SOC.

But damn, is that HOF beautiful.

The SOC looks cool in its own right too.
(But not like that backplate on the HOF wow)

AND WHY WOULD YOU WATER COOL IT?!?!?!
Dont ruin the beaty of the card
