Im thinking of making a computer that can last me around 4 years, but i might upgrade something two years down the road. Im going to use this computer for school and gaming. Please help on what parts i should choose, or should i just buy a macbook like my friends told me.

Solution
At the end of 4 years there won't be much in the PC that you will still want to use probably.

Try -
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.92 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($108.79 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($81.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive ($101.04 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card ($339.95 @ B&H)

Total: $1073.17

I'm trying on one hand to get you the best for your money. But also get quality, long lasting components. So its a bit over the $1000. But it'll go like a rocket.

Solution

Pretty much this. OP if you really want to remain at the $1000 price point, just get an i5 4460/4590 and H97 mobo, but everything else is exactly what you'll want

a 4690k is a better bet. higher stock speed and can usually be overclocked from 4.4 to 4.6ghz without much trouble. If you want a laptop then get a laptop, but laptops and desktops really are apples and oranges. A desktop is typically more powerful/faster but lacks portability. It's a tradeoff.

You mentioned building a computer, do you already have a desktop that needs upgraded or do you need everything including keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers etc?

As a side note, if you want a macbook for $1000 from what I can tell you'd be getting a 2.5ghz dual core i5, 4gb ram, 500gb (small) 5400rpm (slow) hdd - other than portability, I see no perk. For that same $1000 you can have an overclocked 4.6ghz quad core with 8gb ram and a larger faster hard drive with better gpu.
