So I will be visiting family for a month and i'm going to need my desktop for work. I was wondering whats the best way to ship my desktop. I have a corsair hydro h100i, 1070, Corsair Crystal Series 460X. I plan on pulling out my gpu and hard drive, and putting the rest of the system back into my case box. Is there anything else i should do to make sure my computer is safely transported?

I use the original box for exactly that for transporting my gaming PC when visiting friends or family (driving). It was packed well with Styrofoam corner protectors so you can't do much better than that. And yes pertaining to the other guy's comment, some case companies do a better original packaging job than others. My Antec Nine Hundred's case box is double ply walled heavy duty. My Zalman Z9 case box on the other hand is made from thinner single ply recycled cardboard.

With that said, I don't feel it necessary to remove anything internal especially HDDs as the reading arms are locked when it's off. But I do make sure the case is placed on its side with components facing up in the trunk to alleviate any vibration stress on the...
Get something to fill the void. Avoid regular plastic like standard bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Ideally use anti-static bubble wrap rolled into tight bundles. That will help support the panels while in transit and protect the motherboard if something does break.

I'm not sure the box the case came in will be sufficient to protect the case during transit. Many boxes are made only to handle the empty case. When you load it up, the PC may be much heavier, particularly with WC, and the box may crumple under the weight and damage the case.

Now when I'm flying and need to check it in, I removed most components and put them in a separate bag in their original boxes.
