how should i Upgrade my pc ?

I have got a
Asus Gt 440 1Gb ddr5.
i3 540- 3.07ghz with 2 cores and 4Threads.
1tb seagate 7200rpm hdd.
4gb crossair ram.
500w oddsy powersupply.
a intel DH55PJ Classic mother board.
i have decide to get a Gtx 970 and ADD a cross air vengence 4GB. but i cant figure out how can i use my old rig . so will my pc run games on 1080p on ultra high if i only change my GPu or do i have to upragrade anything else??

Well can you give more details about your motherboard's model and CPU? As far as I know, all i3 processors are dual core.

Well your CPU is becoming quite old and will somehow limit your 970's performance. What is your budget?

Right Now i have a tight buget of $500 thats why im just planning to buy a GTX 970 Ram and a power source . then change the rest later . and how much will be the FPS drop if i use GTX 970 in my rig. I mean will i be able to game at 1080p if i only change the GPU for now

Well I really cannot give you an exact number and truly speaking FPS numbers say nothing to me. If you are going to upgrade your CPU and motherboard in a while then, for me, it doesn't really matter.
