Right now for my computer I have this dumpster fire CPU, it's an Intel® Pentium® Gold G5400 and my graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 730. Considering this is an office computer, getting a computer with this was obviously a terrible deicison. So now, I'm looking to upgrade the CPU (I'll probably also upgrade the graphics card in the future, too) to something not too expensive, but something that'll make the upgrade worth while. What do you guys suggest (I'm looking within the $100-$200 range).

Right now I'm looking to upgrade my pc's CPU to an Intel i5-8400, right now it's an Intel Pentium Gold G5400. What I'm worrying about is the compatibility for this CPU with my motherboard. I'm having trouble locating all the details to determine if this upgrade is possible, i'm wondering what you think.

According to the link on the system:
  • Intel® Pentium® Gold G5400 processor (3.70GHz, 4MB Cache)
  • Up to 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-8500 (3.00GHz, up to 4.10GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 Cores, 9MB Cache)
  • 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-9500 (3.00GHz, up to 4.40GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 Cores, 9MB Cache)
Stock power supply that's usually included is a bit light in terms of what's normally out there, but there is a 400w option according to the hardware manual, part number 00PC738, which is also mentioned here:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkC...-the-Motherboard-handle-Internal/td-p/4169248

The bigger problem though is that this 'tower' model is basically an SFF desktop standing sideways so you will be limited on gpus and power. However, with an upgrade in cpu, I think you'll find the igpu will be decent for now.

So the upgrade can be done?

I have a text document with all the details of my pc if anyone wants to tell me how i can link it.
Just paste it into a post. I can't find that model number anywhere on lenovo's site, but I've seen enough of the same model number in a tower format that I think it should work. The processor also shares the same tdp as an i3 that seems to be stock in a lot of these models as well:
