Ok guys, 4-4-2 used to be my favourite formaiton..but I never made it
work. Have gone through a million formations, and been successful, but
now I want to make 4-4-2 a success as well. In my liverpool I got the
usual defenders, and they`re just fine. Midfield I brought in Veron and
he`s been brilliant. Besides him I just brought in some youthplayers.

Any of you guys got any great 4-4-2 system to e-mail so that I can try
, fail and see what you have done??

Pink...bored as F...K, but with a beer on the table.

I use both the Flat 4-4-2 and Diamond 4-4-2 with Liverpool quite
successfully. In the flat 4-4-2 I use Gerrad and Alonso in the middle,
together they are awesome. Left is obviously Kewell and if you have Veron
you might as well try him on the right. I haven't used him in the game so
don't know how effective he is. If that doesn't work use Alonso and Veron in
the middle with Gerrard on the right. As for the Diamond 4-4-2 I use Alonso
in the holding role (DMC) mainly but sometimes also use either Hamann or
Gerrard depending on the circumstances. On the right I put Gerrard and
Kewell on the left. I play Garcia behind the front 2. This is the formation
that got me my European honours by beating Real 3-0 in the final so it can't
be too bad. My playing style is a very high tempo with players closing down
all over the pitch and direct passing. I always leave the attacking slider
3/4 of the way along but that is a personal choice and it depends on how
brave you are feeling. Hope this helps.

I haven't it here (office), but I use 442Att default, then preset each
position with default instructions, search the playmakers and target men,
assign them, after that I set use playmakers and target man on team
tactics. All done? No, search the best long shoters and change manually to
them try it hard. Have also set playmakers to have much creative freedom
and try long passes.
That's it.
With Atletico I made it work very fine.

Don't forget you need good players, it won't save small teams to get
trashed! 🙂

Try 3-4-1-2. With Chelsea and beat Everton 9 - 0 the first time i tried it.
i play it every home game and score 100+ each season but i do conced 35-45 a
season. won the premiership 3 times in a row, Champions leauge twice FA cup
and League cup. Don't play it against good opposition away though

Agree.. The system also have this advance, that you only have to concetrete
about getting good central defenders. Left and right backs aren't used here,
so you save a little time in the search for players...

I've used three-man defence a couple of times with Liverpool and Roma in FM,
but find it to vulnerable away from home (even with two DMCs) - what do you
do?

I also use 3-4-1-2. At home the team tactic is a little more offensive
minded, with orders to play through both flanks. Away the team is a little
more defensive minded. I think that the away tactic has the wingers more
defensive, so they can close the holes in the wings. Also the central
midfielders also has a more defensive role. So the offensive part is mostly
created by the attacking midfielder and the strikers in the away tactic.
Therefore I doesn't use to play widely throught wings, but more through the
middle where the attacking midfielder and the strikers are. There is an
advantage by playing through middle, if you loose the ball, the most team is
behind the ball and on right defensive position. Try play with the team
tactic, and make two tactics "3-4-1-2 Home" and "3-4-1-2 Away".

I play a 3-1-4-2 (with a DMC to make up for the missing fullbacks) - but I
didn't change anything when playing away (with Liverpool). I'll try that.

With Roma it was a 3-2-1-3-1 tac :) (3 def, 2 dmc running forward, 1 mc, 3
Amc (two going wide up and one running to a SC position) and a single SC)
