How to adjust idle speed

My Gigabyte P55-UD3R is running my I5 at 3.8 ghz all them time (20 x 190mhz). Shouldn't it drop back to a lower idle speed occassionally. Do I have something set wrong in the BIOS?

My old Core2 system would run at 4.0 ghz but drop down to 2.5 ghz at idle.

Did you turn SpeedStep off? Is the EIST setting on or off.

I've tried setting EIST on Auto and Enable and it makes no difference, core speed is always 3800 or 3799.9

I have a P55 Gigabyte mb too.

You have to turn ON C1E, C3/C6/C7 and EIST to have Speedstep enabled!
