What is the best way to apply thermal paste (specifically arctic silver 5) to a laptop CPU? The laptop I'm working on is the Lenovo U530 and the contact point is in 2 parts, One long rectangle an another shorter one (see picture included). I've read many different methods from many different places but they all seem to depend on what system you're working on and what type of paste you are using. Any help is appreciated. Thx in advance.

Apply a small dot of thermal paste on the smaller die and a thin line down the bigger die. Re-seat the heatsink and you're good to go. Use your best judgement on how much to apply. Remember that you don't want too much or too little. You just want to apply enough so it covers most or all of the die and is a thin layer when it spreads after the heatsink is on. Don't check to see how it spread either or you will need to reapply the thermal compound again.

Ok thanks. I've built multiple computers before and have always used the pea method, but I've never put thermal paste on a laptop cpu before. When I looked up how to apply thermal paste to a laptop specifically I was given a large amount of differing methods. Wanted to see if it was basically the same thing as installing it on a desktop, and I guess it is.
