I have a gigabyte gtx1070 g1 gaming card running under Window 10 with which I have been having the black screen and fans spinning up to 100% issue that I see has been raised in many other threads on this forum. I am working through a whole variety of things to get to the bottom of the problem, so far without success. My question isn't about this issue per se, but it provides context to my problem.
The short version is that part way through installation of the geforce driver (with no driver installed at the time) or if the driver is installed a few second after windows loads, I the screen goes black and all the fans spin up to 100% essentially making the pc unusable and forcing power off with the switch. This behaviour occurs 100% of the time.
This leads me to my question. I am trying to see if updating the video cards vga bios version fixes the problem. However I am unsure how to go about getting the bios version of the card. I am aware of all the tools etc and the gigabyte extreme gaming engine etc that allow you to find the bios version (and update it in the case of the extreme gaming engine), however they all seem to require the driver to be running to get that information. However since there is no way for me to actually use the PC with the card and driver installed I am at a loss about how I can firstly, aquire my current version so I know which new version to download and secondly, how to install it under these conditions.
Does anyone know if/how I can do this?
