If you need help with your wireless connection there are several factors that go into allowing us to help you better. You cannot just ask for help regarding your specific connection as every connection, ISP, and network is different from the next. If you want for us to provide you with help in getting your connection established or reestablished there are several dos and donts that will help speed up the process.

DO:

  • Provide us with the make and model of your laptop (if applicable)
  • Provide us with the make and model of your router (if provided by your ISP please note)
  • Provide us with the make and model of your modem (if provided by your ISP please note)
  • Provide us with the exact specifications of your PC (if applicable) including:
    • Make and model of motherboard
    • Make and model of USB / PCI-E / motherboard Wifi Adapter,
    • Operating system and current version being used (eg Windows 10 version 1909 or Mac OS X version 10.5.3
  • You will also need to post your ISP and connection type*.
  • You will also need to post the exact number of devices connected to your router (this includes tablets, smart phones, laptops, and desktop PCs) as some routers can only handle a specific number of devices at a time.
  • Post any and all error messages you are getting from your ISP or Windows itself
  • If requesting help with a wireless printer, please provide us with the manufacturer and EXACT model number (eg HP Officejet Pro 9018)
  • If requesting help with current Wifi standards, such as Wifi 6, it will help to know what equipment you are connecting to what router
  • If requesting help with non PC related Wifi devices, such as a gaming console or streaming device, let us know what it is you are trying to connect
DON'T:

  • Post your personal IP address or log on information (this is considered sensitive information and will be edited out accordingly)
  • Post ping information (again, sensitive information)
  • Give cryptic information such as "my logon is not working, please help". Please provide detailed information as much as you can.
  • Give out account specific information such as phone or router IMEI codes, especially if you are not the owner of the Wifi hot spot you are trying to connect to (this will result in an immediate temporary or permanent ban depending on the situation).
  • Ask for help about how to work around any IP bans you already have. This will result in an immediate permanent ban depending on the situation.
  • Repeatedly ask for free Wifi drivers. These are provided by the manufacturer free of charge on the manufacturer's respective website. For the most common brands and manufacturers, these are noted below.
MANUFACTURER DRIVER SOFTWARE LINKS DESKTOP MOTHERBOARDS:

MANUFACTURER DRIVER SOFTWARE LINKS LAPTOP & PRE BUILT SYSTEMS

MANUFACTURER DRIVER SOFTWARE USB LAN ADAPTERS & PCI-E CARDS

* - NOTE: NO MODERATOR OR USER WILL ASK YOU FOR PERSONAL IP ADDRESSES OR LOG ON INFORMATION AS IT IS DEFINED IN THE BOARD TERMS OF SERVICE AGREEMENT AS SENSITIVE INFORMATION: http://www.tomshardware.com/community/faq.html

** - SEVERAL COMPANIES LIKE XOTIC PC, FALCON NORTHWEST, AND ORIGIN SELL REBRANDED SAGER LAPTOPS. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE DRIVER VERSION WILL WORK CORRECTLY. IF YOU OWN ONE OF THESE LAPTOPS PLEASE GO TO YOUR RESPECTIVE MANUFACTURER'S WEBSITE.

** - ALSO NOTE - MANUFACTURERS OF CHINESE KNOCK OFF BRANDS ARE NOT INCLUDED AS THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THEM TO KEEP UP WITH AND MOST DO NOT PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THEIR PRODUCTS. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK.
