how to block google hangout

How do I block google hangout on my firewall or from a specific computer

You will likely have to block google.com. Google for a company that is suppose to respect security is one of the worst offenders when they want to run their stuff. There are all kinds of ports hangout uses but if you block they build a encrypted tunnel via the main google site...or at least I think so. All the traffic seems to go to just that one ip.

I know our palo alto firewall has a signature that can block it but others do not. They of course do not document how they managed to do it.

is it just the website?

usually a router blocks ALL traffic to that site for the entire network. depending on what kind of route you have you can sometimes block on that PC but honestly don't know if you can.

If you attempt to block things like talk.goggle.com or talkgadget.google.com and some others they just run the traffic over port 443 to www.google.com. Not sure how they do it but we have blocked every site except www.google.com on port 443 and it still runs.
