My school district has aquired macbook airs for each student this year, we can take them home and bring them each day to school (i am in high school). There is a program called Blue Coat on the macbooks. At school it seems this program doesn't function it seems the school network is used to keep kids off of stuff like twitter, youtube, etc.if you click on the icon on the top row of the screen, it says "passive mode". But when you go home, it changes to "Connected to cloud service". It needs the internet to work it seems, when i shut off the wifi it goes red. What i would like to do is possibly deny the program access to the internet, through my router. Through the mac is a no-go, you need a password for many tasks. I was curious to see what would happen if the blue coat lost its internet. Maybe I would be able to get on youtube at home! I'm hoping there is a setting somewhere i can check that simply denies access to blue coat, but let any other programs i need access it. i have an asus rt-n12 n-300 router. Im not even sure this is possible but i thought i would give it a try.
