How to burn my CDs correctly?

So
I would like to burn music on CDs and listen to them on my home theatre - Philips HTS3610. I tried with FLAC and mp3 files but they don't work. Should I try .cda or something else or is there something else wrong?

there should be no problems I do not know what software you are using try this its free do not pay try mp3 again with this.

Can the drive play a factory-made CD/DVD? just in case it's broken. Then next I'd burn a plain CD disc. EVERY drive should be able to play that, if not suspect this player picky about R/W media used.
