How to calibrate dell u2410

Recently got a u2410 but jezz this thing is fcking bright at stock. Been playing with the nvidia settings for a while and can't seem to get it right. Uses for the monitor: reading textbooks, gaming, youtube. For instance, the ground on FC3 looks very bright. Any suggestions on how to keep the color accuracy but lower the brightness?

primary settings to brightness, contrast and colour temp should be done using the buttons on the monitor itself, in conjunction with the on-screen menu display.
