How to change microsoft word document icon in windows 7

How do you change what icon appears for a microsoft word document, while using windows 7. In windows XP you could go to "file type" tab in the folder option and choose what icon you wanted to appear for any file type. How do you do that in Windows 7.

Unfortunately, there is no way that I know of to change an individual document's display icon, or even Microsoft Word's icon.

You can change the icons for shortcuts. If you have two or three word documents that you often use and you'd like unique icons for then, then create a shortcut to each one (right-click, select "Create Shortcut") and then set the icon for each shortcut (right-click the shortcut, select "Properties", click the "Change Icon" button).

You can then drag the shortcuts to your taskbar if you want easy access to them.

I just found this while searching for the answer to this same problem with Skype,

The default desktop Skype icon represents the so called Advertised Shortcut. This is a special type of shortcuts which actually don’t point to the program executable but to the program installer which on startup performs check of the program’s integrity. See here for a better description:

Actually there are several other programs using this kind of shortcuts, e.g. Microsoft Office programs.

If you want to have the ability to change the icon then you can just create your own Skype.exe shortcut.
