I have a TP-LINK wifi router, and I have full administration privileges of course, I also have all administration to my modem (my router is connected to my modem). I use my laptop all the time, and the wifi that comes from our modem, which has the wifi tp-link router connected to it.

I like to play starcraft, and I have to port forward 6112 TCP all the time to be able to host games, which is fine and I do it all the time.

So, basically this question is out of convenience. Everytime I turn on my laptop, my local ip changes, so... from like 192.168.0.109 to 192.168.0.106, to 192.168.0.105, etc, etc. I have to be changing the IP address and do the port forwarding all over again, each and every time i turn on my laptop back on again.

Is there a way to set my laptops local router IP address to a static one? One that doesn't change?

By the way, I do the port forwarding on the router webpage, i just connect to 192.168.1.1 and it opens up the TP-LINK settings which I have full access to.

Solution
you have to set a static ip on your laptop. pick something in the range such as 192.168.1.199 to avoid potential conflict with other connecting devices. this is n the network settings. you will need a few numbers to give it like dns server which is 192.168.1.1 in your case and leave the subnet setting alone. it stays as 255.255.255 or something like that. then your static ip address and your good to go.

the on the port forwarding page of the router settings, you forward the port to your new ip address and you'll be good to go.

pick a higher number for your ip since the router may assign a low number to something else when you are not on. this creates conflicts when you do log in. it's unlikely to assign a higher number so try .199...

Yea, that's pretty much it. I was just having trouble actually doing it. So first I needed to find my MAC address and I found it by looking at different settings on the router page. Then I went into DCHP or something, then into the Client List, and I found it there. Afterwards, I went into "Address Reservation" and I added my mac address, to a specific IP that I chose as 192.168.1.119, then that was it, works great.
