If you are not comfortable with the default screen timeout settings of your computer, or if you have accidentally made any modifications and want to revert back to the timeout settings that you personally choose to keep, this tutorial is just for you.
In order to make modifications in the screen timeout duration in Windows 8/8.1, you are not required to log on to the computer with the administrator account. Since the configuration is user specific, you can use a standard user account to make the modifications, but the modifications will be reflected on your account only. This means that the screen timeout duration that you set for your user account might be different from the screen timeout duration of any other user account on the same computer. In order to keep the same screen timeout duration for all the user accounts on the computer, the identical duration value must be configured for each account individually.
Here is how you can change the screen timeout duration in your Windows 8/8.1 computer:
10. Once this is done, click Save changes to save the modifications that you have made. The changes should become applicable instantaneously, i.e. as soon as you click the Save changes button.

■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
■Once on the desktop window, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen.
■From the displayed Charms bar, click Settings.
■From the Settings pane that appears in the right, click Control Panel.
■On the Control Panel window, click the System and Security category.
■On the System and Security window, click the Power Options category.
■On the opened Power Options window, from the right pane, click the Change plan settings option representing the power plan whose radio button is selected. (Balanced (recommended) or plan is selected for this demonstration.)
■On the opened Edit Plan Settings window, choose the appropriate timeout duration for your computer screen from the Turn off the display drop-down list.
10. Once this is done, click Save changes to save the modifications that you have made. The changes should become applicable instantaneously, i.e. as soon as you click the Save changes button.
