quite old, has a south bridge ICH7 chipset, which doesnt support ahci mode. How "old" is this PC?
Win 10 will install in ide...quite old, has a south bridge ICH7 chipset, which doesnt support ahci mode.
dual core e5500Win 10 will install in ide...
But 'quite old' is not definitive.
ICH7 was around 2005. This may be too old for Win 10.
What CPU is in it?
That should install Win 10 just fine (given sufficient RAM).dual core e5500

Discussion - What's the oldest and/or cheesiest system you have Win 10 installed on?
Mine is a 2009 era Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 Celeron 900, 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD. The only upgrade from stock was a warranty replacement of the original 160GB HDD to the current 250GB. Currently v1903, Build 18362.295 https://www.cnet.com/products/toshiba-satellite-l305-s5955/specs/...forums.tomshardware.com
Nooooo...thats great, so ill install windows 10 through a usb drive to the ssd while its in the old computer. Is there a setting or something i need to do so it sets it up in ide mode?
yes thats what i said while the ssd is in the old computer i meant old by its an old computer. It will automatically install in ide mode? or is there something i need to do?Nooooo...
You install Win 10 on the SSD when it is in the system where it will live.
Don't install in System A and then move to System B.
Win 10 is "better" than previous versions, but by no means 100%.
OK.yes thats what i said while the ssd is in the old computer i meant old by its an old computer. It will automatically install in ide mode? or is there something i need to do?

guess that list might b kinna bogus
celeron 900 is penryn which says on the list both 32 and 64bit not supported but he got it to work. theres some other even older cpus on that tread which ppl got to work which is interestingIt's not bogus. There's two different versions of Windows 10 - 32-bit and 64-bit. The 32-bit version is rarely used anymore which is why most CPUs don't support that version of it.
