I have a computer running on Windows 7 with a GTX 290 card and a first gen i7 920 CPU. Ever since I built the computer a few years ago the start up is just over to the left, I can't see anything on the left side and the right side is just a black bar. The proper resolution isn't set until the log-in screen. The computer did this even when it was running on Vista. I've noticed my computer does this when running on certain resolutions that the monitor isn't good with. So my question is is there any way to change my resolution in my BIOS? It's not really a matter of life or death, it's just finally started to really annoy me.

Your monitor should have some settings or a button that auto adjusts the screen.

This should fix it. I don't know what monitor you have but either find the manual if you have it, or look it up online, or just play around with the settings.

How man times have you tried it? Press it a few times and see what happens. I've seen this in a few monitors where you'd end up having to press it a few times to finally get it adjusted well.

The resolution on the BIOS defaults to the lowest resolution your monitor can handle.

So again just try a few more times if that doesn't work call your MOBO supplier and or check to see if there were any issues with that specific monitor.

If you are forced to use an adapter for HDMI, get an adapter for DVI-D to HDMI. Putting an adapter on the VGA output of your card (or the VGA input of the monitor) won't fix the problem. You need to use the DVI-D output from your card. Or, if your card has an HDMI output, that is the best option.
