HOW TO CHANGE WHERE IT SAYS TYPE ON DVD DRIVE

Hello, I got a emachines E725 Laptop that has a DVD-RW Drive but it wont read DVDS. When i go to Properties the Type is CD Drive how do change it to say dvd. Do i use cmd are a program that can change it
and im using Windows 7 Ultimate

ODD Super Multi DL Driver DVD .. It has RW, DVD, Multi on it.. I tried DVD R- R+ RW and movies but it would not read. So can i change the "type" ???

the DVD Drive is Slimtype DVD A DS8A4SH ATA Device

My DVD shows device type as a CD drive(My bluray does the same) when there is no DVD's in it as well. The drive may be dieing and no longer reading DVD's. When my DVD drives get too old(and worn out), they stop reading dvd's they just spin try to read fail and call the drive empty. That would result in it being seen as a CD drive even with a DVD in.

The drive selects on its own based on what disc is used.

What version of windows?
