i recently replaced my storage and motherboard using
Kingston NV2 500gb PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2
Asus Prime A320m-K/CSM
motherboards states "With x4 PCI Express 3.0/2.0 bandwidth, M.2 supports up to 32Gb/s data-transfer speeds"
does that mean the ssd is using gen3 speed instead of gen 4? im confused with these technical terms

Yes it's working at PCIe x4 gen3 speed, that MB doesn't support gen4, only 500 chipset series do,
PS. I can see picture.
just a side question, is it ok for the nvme m.2 to be screwed at an incline? the m.2 slot is a bit higher and the slot where the screw on the other end is a bit lower and the screw is short, so the nvme m.2 is installed at an incline not parallel to the motherboard

check if your Kingston M.2 NVME is using optimized speed, you can follow these steps:

  1. Check the specifications: First, verify the rated speed of your Kingston M.2 NVME drive by referring to the product's specifications on the Kingston website or the product manual.
  2. Check your motherboard compatibility: Ensure that your motherboard supports the full speed capabilities of the NVME drive. Some older motherboards might not fully utilize the NVME drive's maximum speed.
  3. Check in BIOS/UEFI settings: Restart your computer and access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the boot process (usually by pressing a specific key like Del, F2, or F10). Look for settings related to NVME drives or PCIe configurations. Make sure that the drive is recognized and running in PCIe x4 mode for the highest speed.
