Hi to all,

I would like to know, how to check if my CPU is thermal throttling while playing games!

My CPU is i7-6700 HQ.

I have monitored if the CPU is trottling via hwinfo it has a throttling monitoring sensor,in combination with MSI Afterburner on the OSD while playing GTA V

It hasn't showed me that the CPU is throttling and the clocks speeds where around 3.1 GHz,but I launched the Intel Extreme Utility a few moments after playing the game and it showed that the CPU is throttling!

So which of these two programs is more reliable in detection of the CPU throttling: hwinfo or the XTU?

And is there a more reliable program for monitoring of the CPU throttling?

And by the way, could someone please tell on which temps the i7-6700 HQ CPU ,would thermal throttling?

Thanks to all in advance!
Best regards!

I would trust XTU more since Intel made the thing.

What are your temps?
If it is throttling you would see the core speed drop way down.
Speedfan is good and shows "distance to max" which is how far from throttling it is.

Around 71-74 degrees Celsius.

Sometimes up to 84!

Okay 84 might throttle. If you want to be sure - put it near a fan or lift the corners up on books to improve airflow.
What lead you to check that it was throttling?

I believe the 6700HQ has some absurdly high rating of 100C

I have heard that this model of laptop's CPU suffers from themal throttling, because of the dust filter located on the air-intake.

But never mind!
My point was which program is best for monitoring CPU throttling that's all.
