How to check if there is something wrong with microphone jack/port?

My headphones' microphone when plugged into the front port makes some weird noises. But when i plug into the one at the back of the case (Directly into the motherboard) it works ....alright. Although when i try to skype it says there is a nicrophone error. But the sound heard is very little. I own Gamecom 380. I just wanna know for sure b4 i buy new headphones Help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have other head phones to test the audio jack is working properly?

Audio works alright, its the mic port thats having a problem. I heave earphones with a mic but they have only 1 jack which goes into the audio jack.
