i have a 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz can i add another 8gb ram stick of the same speed in,i do have extra slots in my laptop, am just not sure if it have to be single channel or duel channel or do the act of sticking another stick in make it duel channel i suspect the latter it is to improve performance playing minecraft so another question is should i be looking at getting faster ram or does the two combine make 1600mhz speed and if so is that suitable enough i have a terrible budget thanks

Solution
Mixing ram is hit and miss , you won't know till you try , because even identical modules purchased at separate times can be incompatible.

DDR3 running a 798 is really running a 1596 aka 1600 because you double it = 798x2.

Best to use the Crucial scanner.
