How to Combine Two Servers

I have two old laptops that I'd like to use as servers. Only trouble is, they're both too slow. I was wondering if there is a way to set them up with the same files, and split incoming requests between them.

What type of servers do you intend to use them as? Dumb web hosting? Smarter web hosting? Databases? Game servers?

Are they directly connected to the net, or through a NATing router?

And most importantly, why the hell would you host stuff off of 'old laptops'. It's a recipe for disaster.

File/Web servers running Lubuntu Server 14 and (hopefully) Apache.

(I know that that may not be the best choice. I'm familiar with the Ubuntu environment.)

Through a router, through another router in DMZ mode, through a cable modem, to the Internet.

And most importantly, why the hell would you host stuff off of 'old laptops'. It's a recipe for disaster.

Because I'm broke, I don't care too much about speed, I got them for free, and they're easy to switch out when they inevitably break.
