How to completely remove Internet Explorer

Okay so I have done this before and on my current computer I have completely removed Internet Explorer by from what I remember deleting all the Folders containing the name a Internet Explorer. After that I think I remembered getting a lot of issues in CCleaner Registry until I removed it manually from the registry. Does this sound about right? I don't have IE at all but I am doing a fresh install and I want to do this again

IE cannot be removed completely as it's an integral part of Windows. Many IE resources are used for Windows functions even when IE itself is not running.

I do not think it would be appropriate for this forum to give tips on partially removing it. We exist to help with problems, not to create them.

Never remove programs by deleting the program files! Always a bad idea and guaranteed to cause you problems further down the line. IE is heavily integrated into Windows and you would break something else.

You can disable IE though.

Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > Turn Windows features on or off
Un-tick the Internet Explorer option.

Never done it before to be honest, but I know the option is there. Can always be turned back on if you have issues.

Well not exactly sure how it can cause problems since my current computer has been without it for four months all the program files program data everything. My registry is perfect in Ccleaner and the only issue I have is in a game I play that doesn't redirect you to your current browser so it doesn't load the urls. But other then that no issues or problems.

Well guess if I can't get any help here I will just delete all of the Internet Explorer folders and follow the path the Ccleaner error is and delete those registries if anything goes wrong I will just reinstall Windows as this is going to be the first thing I do once I install

Your decision but you have been warned. IE is a major part of Windows and you can't simply delete it without breaking something else.

Far safer to disable it.


However, if you insist on removing IE and are re-installing anyway - you can use a tool such as RT7Lite to create a custom installation disk. Allows you to remove Windows components and add updates/programs etc to the installation disk. A lot of effort for what you want though.

You are correct. However, the simple fix...... Control panel. services local, Internet explorer, right click, select "disable service"...... Then open the registry, by clicking on "windows" (bottom left for the dummies), in the command bar type regedit. click on "yes" if you encounter window asking if you want to make changes etc. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, Internet Explorer. In the right hand pane, there will be 4 values. Right click on the bottom value, it will be either be labelled "New Value #1", or possibly "Current Value #1" (it has a blue icon next to it). Select "Modify". A small window will open. Change the value to #0 in the "Value data:" field, click ok, or apply. RESTART your computer (not shutdown, then start! RESTART). A small window will appear, saying "resetting something or other". Computer will startup, IE icons will be gone...... Just so you are aware, IE is still on your computer, however, it is not sucking RAM any longer, and it is no longer in the toolbar (where us firefox, or chrome users might accidentally click on it). I hack, I slash, I rub some f'n spit and dirt on it, apply a bandaid, and smile like it doesn't hurt a bit..........
