How to completely wipe LG cell phone?

I've got an LG smartphone. I don't know the model number though. I want to completely erase all data and start over from scratch. How do I do that?

Usually you hold the volume button up or down or both up and down while powering on the phone and it will allow you to do a complete factory reset on the phone.
