How to configure computer for lpt1

I have a GCC expert24LX plotter cutter. Its manufacturer recommends

setting the computer to lpt1. Each time I select that lpt while installing driver for that plotter, my computer automatically reverts to lpt 4, and I cannot operate cutter. what should I do?
