I have a Verizon Fios modem/router MI424WR with a WAN port. I would like to connect my Windows server 2012 to that WAN so I can setup a dial in VPN. Is there something I have to configure on the router? How do I configure the server to be connected to that port?

Thank you,

That wan port is used when a ethernet cable is used to provide a internet connection to the actiontec device. It is actually used by more ISP than just verizon. In some cases version configures the ONT to give you internet via ethernet rather than coax so it needs that port for its wan access.
It is INPUT to the device not a output.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish. VPN would be best established by using the VPN passthough or port mapping features. If the only way to get your vpn server to work is for it to get a actually IP you can call verizon and they will make the ONT run on ethernet and you can plug your PC directly in. You can use a different router also if that is your goal. You will lose your tv or phone or...
Let me clarify, the router has an ethernet port labeled as WAN that's separate from the LAN switches. Is there any use for it? Can I connect a router to that WAN port for example?
