Hi Everybody.... I was hoping you could help me. I have a VCD/DVD player (brand new free gift) and no TV to connect it to . I was wondering if it's possible to connect the player to the current PC I have; but I have totally no idea what specs I need. Sounds like I may or may not need a video card; but I hope someone can help me out here.

Cheers

You can not connect your player directly to your monitor, unless you have a VIVO ( video in-video out) on your pc.So,the cheapest solution is buying a tuner card for your pc.A tuner card has an analog video in port,so you can connect your player to it and watch the movies on your monitor, but the quality will not be as high as a TV,even if you buy the best tuner card in the market(which uses Theater 550 chip from ATI).

Ofcourse you have another choice too,you can buy a cheap Video Capture Card(about $50 or more) like Snazzi. It's quality is much better than a tuner card(nearly the same as a TV) but more expensive than a typical $30 tuner card.
