I would like to connect my VCR to my laptop. I have some old videos that i would like to put on a disc using a screen recorder. My problem is that i dont know how to connect my VCR to my laptop. What cables do i need and what software can i use to give my laptop AV (audio visual) compatibility such as a TV. I have a Samsung RV510 running on windows 7.

Isn't it possible for me to just buy a cable that is converted from RCA to usb? The RCA cable would the be connected to the VCR and the USB cable would be plugged into my laptop. If i do it this will the laptop automatically register that it is connected with a VCR and then display my video, or do i actually need to download some software ? I thought of connecting it the way i mentioned above and then just to download the applicable software to display the video. *confused*

You may need to download software as it will send an analog feed though usb, or seeing is it isn't converted before hand it might not even seen a signal at all.
