Hi guys.. this is my first thread at tom's hardware forum.
I am trying to understand the wireless networking puzzle before buying an wireless router to create a wifi zone inside my house.

In my home i have two(2) media converters (optilink 10/100 base-tx to 100 base-fx). one is for my own desktop and another is for our local cable operator guy (as told by ISP people).

After that a 8-port ethernet swich
(digisol blazer series dg-fs1008dg 10/100 mbps fast ethernet green swich) is connected with both the media converters through rj45 cables and from that switch a RJ45 cable is connected to my pc.

I am not a tech savvy, so i am little confused about how to connect a laptop to my existing internet connection (using same static ip address and ipv4 properties as in desktop) via wifi using wireless router (i am planning to buy cisco linksys E1200 N300 router)

desktop properties (if needed):
intel core2duo e7200, m/b intel dg31pr, 3 gb ram, windows 7 sp1 (32 bit)

I have two(2) plans in my mind, but don't know if any of these will work or not. (that's why i'm asking your help before buying the router) besides that i am also confused about buying a wireless access point
or using a wireless router as an access point (by disabling DHCP server, connecting the switch into Lan port instead of Wan port of the router etc. 🙁 )

plan A

plan B

my questions are:
1. is it possible to connect the router according to plan A?
2. can i get signal 20 mtr away from the router in case of plan A?
3. is it possible to connect the router according to plan B?
4. most importantly, in this situation, which device is needed, an access point or a router??

N.B.- i have already searched over google for this topic, but i can't understand the proper hardware connection.
my approx budget is like $40 (in india it is same as $46 after all taxes and custom duties)
i also read this topic
http://kb.linksys.com/
but i can't afford expensive routers having bridge mode.

please help me in this regard to understand the hardware connections.
any help will be appreciated :)

sorry for my poor English and poor drawing too. 😀

@Emerald
thanx for replying..
i have already read that thread before posting here. actually plan B is more suitable for my purpose, but i was not sure if the wireless router will work or not ( because in plan B there will be no wired connection between linksys e1200 and any computer. only a laptop will be connected through wifi )

Thank you very much for your help. :)
