So I just picked up a new TV someone was giving away for free, and am having problems connecting it to our gaming consoles. The TV is a Mitsubishi WS-55511 (http://www.cnet.com/products/mitsubishi-ws-55511/specs/). My problem is that both the Xbox One and PS4 both only contain HDMI outputs, and there is no HDMI input on the TV. However, the TV does support 1080i through component cables, so my roommate went out and bought an HDMI to component converter box(this one http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/hdmi-to-component-converter/129000). After trying this box on both the component ports of the TV, I get nothing. I realized the Xbox One may not be compatible at all because in the settings on the console the display can only be set to 1080p or 720p. The PS4 on the other hand can be set to wider range that includes 1080i, 720p, and 480p. I have tried all these settings on it, making sure to unplug and converter box itself from the wall between each test. I have also tested this converter box on our newer TV with PS4 on 1080i, and it works fine so I know the converter box isn't broken. Any ideas?

Update: I now know that the component ports on the TV are both functioning properly as well because my component DVD player plays just fine on it.

the TV says it has a VGA input.. does the console have a VGA or DVI output? you can use a DVI-VGA converter & then try using the TV's VGA port with a VGA cable..

just on a side-note: you also have the NTSC/PAL here IIRC with the old TVs... try switching between them..

The PS4 only has an HDMI output slot, but within the settings I am able to set it to 1080i. Would there be any other kind of converter I could try?

I meant the PS4 still won't display on the TV even when I change the settings to display in 1080i or 480p. Would there be any other setting I should mess around with?

I found a HDMI to VGA converter that would work I'm pretty sure, but I'd like to keep it 1080i if possible and not have to return the converter we already have. We were messing around with it a little more and when the PS4 is set to 480p or 1080i on the TV that works, then leaving the PS4 on and switching the HDMI cable to the converter box attached to the old TV, it will display the screen for a second before disappearing. Also for the split second it shows the PS4 settings screen it has a black background rather then the normal blue it shows on the capable TV.

Well thanks for trying. The fact that it displays the screen for a split second makes me believe there has to be some way to make it work. This is driving me crazy lol. I'll probably eventually cave and go for the HDMI to VGA converter.

I'm not sure how that would work, anyways, if it's working & you are not happy with the resolution or it appears to be cut off etc, try using a resolution that's of the same aspect ratio that's supported on the console on the TV's resolution aspect ratio.. if the aspect ratio matches, maybe you can get perfect visuals..
