How to connect an Xbox one controller with a third-party bluetooth adapter

So, I recently bought a game on steam called Rivals of Aether, and it happened to use an Xbox one controller. Good thing I was in luck and had one. I also bought a Bluetooth adapter partly for this, so I could use Bluetooth speakers and use my Xbox one controller with my PC. So I looked up a video on how to do this since I tried simply connecting the controller with the Bluetooth adapter and trying it with the game but it didn't work. So I took to the internet and it said to go to big picture mode on steam, go to the settings, go to controller settings, click Xbox one configuration support, and then connect your Xbox one controller and it should show up below. So I did this and OBVIOUSLY it did not show up below. It even says on the amazon page it is compatible with the Xbox one S controller (mine) and it is! It connects to the adapter but doesn't show up on steam. I bet this has happened to people before, so could someone please help me with this? excuse my grammar, and thanks in advance.

Edit: I solved it! All I needed was an upgrade to Win10! So a big thanks to everyone that tried to help, its the thought that counts 😀

Try going to Settings - Devices and looking for if your Xbox One S Controller shows up as a Gamepad in there, along with the usual restart of the system/game/Steam.
Alternatively try connecting it with a Cable to see if a Driver needs to be installed, or download Drivers for the Xbox One Controller online.

You dont need to add an Xbox one controller to a
Steam, its an xinput device , it should work in steam big picture mode & compatible games qith no additional steps.

Are you sure Steam supports XBox controllers via Bluetooth? I thought it was USB only. I have a feeling only Win 10 supports an Xbox controller using Bluetooth.

I have a Bluetooth Adapter and I've played Wirelessly with both my Xbox One S controller and my PS4 Controller with no issues, and they do work wired as well so I know it will work, just unsure why the games aren't receiving input.

I think the problem might be that I only have Windows 7? I'm not sure actually but this is probably my main concern.

Possibly, but I'm certain Gamepads worked on Windows 7 as well
Try connecting the controller to the PC using a Micro USB cable to see if it downloads anything or recognizes it afterwards

It did all I needed as an upgrade to Win10 which you can get for free at https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10 as long as you have a genuine version of windows.
