How to connect laptop(dell xps15) to lcd tv using hdmi

I can´t connect my brand new Dell XPS 15 to my LCD TV. My HDMI cable is working fine, since it connects other laptops (including my old Inspiron 1525). The XPS does recognize the TV, since it appears in the video and sound settings, but the TV doesn´t recognize the XPS, even in the proper HDMI input. Does it have something to do with the hdmi cable, do I need one compatible with the 1.4 hdmi port? This is getting so frustrating! Thanks in advance!

Does your TV have any other input options ?

Either way, try setting the resolution on the laptop for the TV to 1280x720 (a very common TV resolution on flat screens), and see if the TV picks up the signal.
