You can only use as many monitors as your gpu supports/has ports. However if this is just for having the same image on another screen there are boxes and cables that do this.

Usually, you need an adapter output for each monitor.
Many discrete cards can output to 4 monitors.
Some integrated adapters can output to 3 monitors.
Then,, your motherboard permitting, you can install multiple discrete graphics cards.
Displayport ports can actually send multiple separate monitor signals.
And you can even have them converted to HDMI as well:
