how to connect my laptop to my PC but booting from the PC

ok here is my problem, the windows on my laptop has failed, but before i can install a fresh one i need to format one of my two disks, but i don't want to do that because then i will lose important files, so i want to connect my laptop to my desktop so i can copy the important files in my laptop to my PC hard drive.

To connect laptop to PC, you'd need working OS.
But since your laptop has failed, easiest way of copying data over would be taking out HDD from your laptop and putting it into PC.

If the laptop has failed, you won't be able to connect the laptop to a network and transfer the files.

However, you could remove the HDD from the laptop and install into an external USB enclosure and then transfer files to your PC easily. Something like this will do the trick:
