How to connect Sony Receiver to Bose Acoustimass 5 series lll speakers and sub w

I want to connect a Bose Acoustimass 5 Series lll Speakers to a Sony STR-DE325 FM-Am Receiver.

I used the hookup shown in the Bose Manual. All I get is a roaring sound. Any ideas ? ?

These items above are 10 years old. Should I junk them ??

Roaring sound, three possibilities:
1. Receiver doesn't work.
2. Bose system doesn't work.
3. Improperly connected.

Try to test receiver and speakers separately to make sure they work.
