Subwoofer problem?

Can the Yamaha v381 rcvr be connected to a Monoprice 108247 speaker system subwoofer. The rcvr has a single audio pin type subwoofer output connector whereas the monoprice subwoofer has separate positive and negative rca type input connectors. I have read these two units are incompatible and trying to connect them could cause serious damage.

Solution
You should have no problems at all. No damage possible. All gear should be off when you make these connections.
Connect the 5 sats to the correct speaker terminals. Make sure to get the plus (red) and minus (black) terminals the same on the speaker and receiver. It won't damage anything if you get it wrong but it won't sound quite right.
Connect the receiver single RCA subwoofer output to either RCA input on the subwoofer. Doesn't matter which one.
Follow the receiver manual on how to set up the receiver.
You should set all speakers to small and the sub to yes. Then set the distances and levels.

Thank you americanaudiophile. I read somewhere that for max performance connect the RCA output on the receiver to both inputs on the sub using a splitter. Any opinion on this?
