how do i connect my dell laptop to my projector....i want to be able to show a movie to my class but still be able to type and use my laptop while the movie is playing

Plug it into the output port and press the windows key +p to cycle through the output modes. One will be "extended" where your laptop is primary and the projector is secondary. Drag the media window onto the projector screen.
