How to control bass and treble on old av receiver

Hi i recently inherited an old home theater set up and decided to use it on my computer. I got it all hooked up (just 2 speakers for stereo) and everything except I don't have the remote for the receiver and have no idea how to set the treble and bass. When i was using the speakers on my weak little 20watt tripath the speakers sounded great with a little adjustment to the treble and bass. I have an marantz sr7000 that im using now, thanks for any help.

2 problems with that, It assumes you have a remote and have it connected to a tv. Will a cheap universal remote like this work?

Will that remote works, it's a satellite/tivo remote?

Ahhhh thanks a lot. So if i buy any cheap universal remote i can program the codes into it and it should work?

Not sure if any cheap remotes, could be im not sure. Logitech would be a worthwhile choice to look at if its cheap enough. At least one where you can program it using a computer. Some universal remotes require the original remote to copy the signals over.

Hmm okay thanks for the help. I'll just grab a harmony and cheap universal remote on my next trip to Walmart and return whichever one doesn't work since they are the easiest with returns.

what i don't understand is why you don't use the front panel to navigate the menu... is it broken? don't you have a cheap display to connect to it to see the menu?

Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo are some of the receivers i know they having extra menu stuff only viewed through an external display being a TV. The front panel with the built in display can access some of these functions, the rest needs the remote + TV display.

The osd can only be accessed with a remote it's from the era of "lose the remote and you're screwed".

It still is that era. On-screen displays are a fairly recent feature - five years ago, you would be hard-pressed to find a sub-$800 unit that featured it.

Well i tried the cheap $10 Phillips and no luck. Guess i'll have to get the harmony remote.

Did you read the Phillips manual for the codes?

Yes, i tried the marantz specific one and the 9999 one.

Ok i bought the harmony 650 remote and i can get some basic functions to work with it but no way to control anything i couldn't before without it.

Its gonna be closest you're gonna get i think, keep trying, should be able to do more.
