Hello, i need advice on the following problem: i have a raid 0 and i cannot boot into windows. i am able to enter dos mode using windows xp repair console. but that console doesnt give me the xcopy command.

I want to copy all data from my raid 0 to a sata hdd, but in dos, because i cant boot in windows.

how do i do that ? is it possible in linux ?

I am not a beginner in computer problems, so I know what I say.

One member of my raid 0 has an irreparable error, which stops me from loading windows. t\i managed to boot in dos mode using my xp installation cd. i can see all my files on my raid 0 partitions. my only problem is that i cannot copy them to a sata drive because it wont let me do that with the regular copy command.

i need help on this. if u dont understand my problem, please dont post here.

An irreperable error on a RAID 0 array renders the whole array unuseable. That would explain why the copy command doesn't work. As you are not a beginner in computer problems, I'm sure that you appreciate the problems with RAID 0 and took the precaution of ensuring that all important data was regularly backed up.

Your best course of action now is to replace the failed disk, build a new array, and restore your data to it. You may want to reconsider the wisdom of using RAID 0.

Until recently had no knowledge of raid 0 features. It came preinstalled on my dell xps desktop.
i suspect only one sector of my hdd failed, and that is sector 33056. since i am able to read the files and directories, i assume i can copy them as well. all i want is to save my data and dismantle raid 0 and never use it again.

I am amazed that a reputable company such as Dell supplies computers ready set up with RAID 0 without at least warning customers of the importance of keeping good backups. The truth is that every computer user should keep tested backups of any important data whatever variety of storage they are using. Any hard disk will fail - RAID 0 just increases the risks of that failure happeneing sooner than later, with severe consequences.

I'm sorry, but there is really little to suggest if the "copy" command is unable to copy the files.

i assume there is smtg that i do wrong. because i am trying to copy from raid 0 to a sata drive. i will try now to reinstall win xp on my raid 0, because there is a system file that stops me from loading windows normally. i was able to run chkdsk, but it hangs for hours when trying to delete a corrupt file.

i run the buitl in dell utility and scanned the defective hdd. it found only one sector damaged. thats why i hope that reinstalling xp will work.

You should've said. You can't do anything with an irreparable error on a raid disk set.
