My laptop has an internal 1tb hard disk, and i have an external 1 tb hard disk as well. i want to replace the internal hard disk with a new SSD. i only want to copy the C partition. Is there a way to connect the SSD to my laptop to transfer the data from existing HDD? or can i use my external hard disk to copy the files from internal drive, and then copy back again to the ssd from external. also, i don't want to delete the existing contents of the external drive? which software can i use to do this? thanks!

The new SSD size is 250gb

OK, your C partition is only about 60GB used space. This will work.

1. Macrium Reflect
2. Install it, and create a Rescue USB or CD.
3. Run Macrium, and create an Image of the HDD, selecting ALL partitions except the D partition. This Image gets saved to your External drive.
4. Power off, and swap the HDD for the 250GB SSD.
5. Boot from the Macrium Rescue USB you created earlier, and "Restore". Telling where the Image is, and which drive to apply it to (the SSD).

This should work.
