How to create a separate VPN network

Hi. I want to create a VPN network alongside my normal network. I have an old router around and it supports ddwrt. Is this possible ? It is very easy to do this with a computer. But i cant have my PC always on. Thanks.

Not all vpn can be run from a router...especially the free ones that try to force ads into your browser.

All depends on what you want to do. You could run all your traffic via the dd-wrt router and configure only certain traffic to pass via the vpn. Down side of this is if the router does not have as good wifi as your main router.

You can place it behind you current router or replace it.

If can tollerate manually switching between networks when you want to use the VPN you can just place the vpn route behind your main router and then connect to it via a different wifi network or ethenet cable. You would change you connection back and forth based on if you wanted to be on vpn or not.
