I have 3 netbooks that connect to my laptop through a router (the netbooks serve as viewing stations for images in the public file on the laptop). My camera has a wifi card. I can configure the card to connect to the laptop when it is on my home internet network, but I would like to use a wireless router to connect the camera to the laptop when I am in the field, with no internet access. Is this possible?

Yes you can, you just need to make sure to enable the SSID in the wireless router and DHCP so both your laptop and wifi camera get an IP in the same subnet, the "default gateway" field you can either leave it in blank or fill it, it won't matter since you won't have any internet connection available.

Also..... your laptop should be able to do an ad-hoc connection, basically acting as a wireless access point, this way you wouldn't even need to take with you a wireless router, how exactly i don't know how to do it, but a simple google search should point you in the right direction-

Thanks for the reply. With regard to the ad-hoc connection, unfortunately, the wireless router is needed, as the direct mode connection range is under 6 feet. Trial and error has shown that wifi connection range is much greater, and when stuck in a field in the middle of nowhere, wifi connections are nowhere to be found.
