how to create Lan using 16 port switch

I have a Tp-Link Tl-wr841n 300mbps router and a Dlink DES-1016D 16 port splitter and i using 2Mbps internet connection. the main pc is using a LAN connection through the Tp-link router , the main connection is coming via cable Net. I work in a private office , there are 25 pc , actually I want the LAN sharing to 10 PC .Please help and Oh! I did tried to make CAT5 network cable but some how its not working properly ,can u attach a proper Pic of CAT5 diagram so it might help. I stay in India ,Kolkata. Thanks.

Bascially it would go modem to router, to switch. You can attach the computers to any available port. But it doesn't look like you'll have enough ports to hook up every PC in the office.

As for Cat5, most people use standard B for patch cables. white/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue, green, white/brown and brown. (going from left to right. You then slide the head over cables with the clip facing away from you. Both ends of the cable should be the same. A crossover cable has one end where the green and orange pairs trade places. (not relevant in your case.)

to be sure that all is ok, buy two cat5 cables (it's only 10/100), and test it so that you are sure it's not the cable.

Make it more specific cause i am new to that...but its saying one Ip susing more PC . causing problems , how i will solve one ip to many PC. Thanks

the router does that for you, it assigns IP's inside your network that are not visible to the outside. You don't have to actually do anything if all of the hardware works.

the DES 1016 is a switch, and yes, it will 'handle' it.

however it is only 10/100 (read up on ethernet speeds) and not 10/100/1000 and this will limit your bandwidth to each machine, however if each machine can only cope with 10/100 then you have no problem.

look up Network Address Translation (NAT). this figures out what is coming in and what machine it needs to go to. Note that you cannot see an internal address from outside.

what are you trying to achieve.

cat5 is cat5, cat5e is better but won't benefit you at this time, but might in the future.

Oh this is a very basic question and takes long time to explain, there is already a write up for this, click HERE.

After a decade of experience, I tell you to buy pre-made CAT5. They look easy to make but it's not.

The same problem, i took some picture but how can i send u only showing url option. if i am doing from the router its fine but when i just unplugged the wire and put on the 16 port spliter its showing unidentify network. Do i have to put IP on the TCP/IPv4 .For the time doing in two PC, just checking.

Add another machine to switch with cat5, does that light light up.
