How to determine if a CPU cooler will fit in your case

I have a mid-tower case:

how do I know if a CPU cooler will fit in my case without breaking out a ruler (which I don't have BTW)...is there a mid-tower standard or something?

If I did have a ruler where would I measure from and to?

Without any more info that that, all I can say is find a measuring tape or stick rule and decide on what cooler you plan on using. Measure from the top of the CPU's heat spreader to the side of the case. (yes, you'll have to remove the stock cooler to do so.)

But I can tell you from experience with that case, it is quite narrow. Not many tall aftermarket coolers will fit.

You look up the specs of the CASE and the COOLER. the height of the cooler should be listed, and the width of the CASE should be too. (or it might say max cooler height). this is often the same for the GPU length too.
